The region
Espinho is home to a small urban municipality with an area of 21.06 km² and 31.786 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 counties, limiting to the north with the county of Vila Nova de Gaia, to the east with Santa Maria da Feira, to the south with Ovar and to the west with the Atlantic Ocean.
It belongs to the district of Aveiro, the northern region of Portugal and the Metropolitan Area of Porto (AMP). AMP is a portuguese metropolitan area, whose capital city is located in the city of Porto. It currently has 17 municipalities, with approximately 1.700.000 inhabitants spread over an area of approximately 2,040 km².
Just 30 minutes from Sá Carneiro Airport, half an hour from Grande Porto de Leixões and 15 minutes from Marina do Freixo, Espinho is located in the backbone of the great Lisbon-Porto railway line.
